QB MATT HASSELBECK
(On the status of the offense…) I thought it was a lot better than last week, but obviously we weren't good enough. I think they had a pretty good plan for us. They had a plan for our different personnel groupings and formations, and they made it a little tough. I thought their pressure was really good. We said all week that they are very good up front, and they were tonight. They broke some tendencies tonight, also. They weren't really a blitz team, but they brought it tonight, and we didn't handle it very well. We have a lot that we can correct, and that's what we have to do.
(On not being able to check down and change plays with all of the new players on the offense…) I figure it was probably a little bit more what they were doing, than it was us having new guys out there. I haven't seen the film, but for the most part it felt like they got some breaks. We had opportunities, we didn't make the most of our opportunities. We had opportunities to convert on third down, and we didn't convert. That's what you need to do. I thought Drew Brees had a great game, and he converted on third down, and they made those plays and that was a big part of it. Obviously, being down 21-0 at the start, that is really not the way you want to start a game.
Never miss a local story.
(On the impact of falling behind early… ) It can make you a little bit more one dimensional. We came to this game not expecting to be down 21-0. Still, we had opportunities, and we didn't handle their looks very well, we didn't handle their pressure very well, and we didn't make the plays that we needed to make at the right time. That's why we lost.
(On the fourth and three play…) I don't know why the play didn't work. It's kind of hit or miss, I guess. It should have gashed them, I think. We tried a very very similar play later on with Weaver, in a very similar look, and it was a huge success, and a big run. When teams are going to mess around like that, and try to give you looks, and blitz your protection, that is something we have done pretty well. Two years ago we did it really well. Hopefully, we can get back to what we did two years ago. I thought it was an easy first down, but it was really my call. We'll take a look at the film.
(On the overhead camera coming down…) It was real close. I didn't see it. It hit right by me.
(On thinking the team would come back to win when they were down by 11 points…) Yes, absolutely. I think everyone in the huddle felt that way, I think our guys on the sidelines felt that way. Again, we had opportunities, and we just didn't hang on. We didn't make the play that we needed to make, or if we would have had a split second longer, or maybe fine tune some stuff, we could have made the play and it would have been a great comeback. But, you have to tip your hat to them. They made plays, scored touchdowns, and didn't have the screw ups that we had.
