There was a palpable sense of frustration and I would almost say embarrassment in the locker room, particularly from the offensive line, in light of their failure to get a half yard in overtime, which ended up costing them a chance at winning the game. They didn't really know what happened, waiting until they reviewed the film, but they all said not being able to get a half a yard is unacceptable, regardless of who is running the ball. Rob Sims said he hopes the film doesn't show getting stuffed was his fault, but if it was he will take the blame.
I will post Shaun Alexander's quotes later. He said that his left stiffened up on him in the second half, the reason that he was unable to go late in the game. Even he finally admitted they were not very good at running the game right now, and they need to make some kind of change to figure things out because they are not going to win in the playoffs if they can't run the ball. He also had a pretty interesting quote when I asked him if the play call on fourth down would have been the same if he was in the game. He said the package remains the same, "but I would have been booed." He said it jokingly, but I think it's a sign that the booing does bother him.
As far as the second-half production by Cleveland, they said to give credit to Derek Anderson. They didnt seem to think there was a lack of pressure but more that Anderson got rid of the ball quickly, and Winslow is a load.
Never miss a local story.
Holmgren was angry about the reversed first down, saying they had the same replays up in their box and they did not see anything conclusive that they felt should have allowed the refs to change the call.
I have to get cranking on the daily stuff but I will try to provide regular updates when I get stuff in.
Again, let's keep the talk to football and the language appropriate. I have not read the previous comments but I imagine there are some unhappy folks.
