Well, that was an interesting game. The Hawks look much improved, but really I think most teams would look much improved against a San Francisco team that's borderline inept and embarrassing. For as much as Hawk fans get upset about the run game, could you imagine being a Niners fan and having to watch that passing attack each week.
For those of you, who weren't at the game, how was the Monday night broadcast. I saw they had the obligatory and cliched shot of Pike market and the fish throwing.
Anyway let's get to the links.... starting with the News Tribune..
Here's Frank's game story. Darrin wrote about the defensive pressure on quarterback Alex Smith with some interesting numbers about the Seahawks wins in corollary with getting sacks. The game notebook leads with the solid play of linebacker Kevin Bentley, who came up with the big stop on Frank Gore on 4th and 1 from the 2.
Dave's column focuses on the passing game.
Meanwhile, I had the luxury of covering the Niners lockerroom, where I talked to a very dejected D-Jack.
The "professor" and former News Tribune Hawks writer, John Clayton was in the house and filed this column on the passing game.
Let's take a look at how the San Francisco area papers covered the game.
From the Santa Rosa Press Democrat ...
The game story from beat writer Matt Maiocco ran under the headline, "New Low for Niners." You do have to feel for head coach Mike Nolan, who wouldn't speak about the recent death of his father, Dick Nolan. His players talked about his "heart."
Columnist Lowell Cohn believes the Niners are inept and unprepared — every week.
From the San Jose Mercury News...
The game story
Columnist Mark Purdy writes about the frustrating day for head coach Mike Nolan...
Columnist Tim Kawakami blogged about the game and the MNF broadcast.
