A little bit. I was more anxious. I wanted to get the first series done and start from there. I had some jitter bugs. That pass to Dante (Rosario) kind of settled me down, and I kind of rode from there.
RE: Was that pass an audible?
It was. We had a lot of plays like that. They gave us a certain look, so we just switched to the second play.
RE: Only putting little numbers on the board
The defense played outstanding. It's a little nerve racking sitting there. We needed to punch it into the endzone sooner. We ended up getting it done. It was a little uneasy there for a bit, but it was a good job overall.
RE: When did you know you were starting?
I knew for a while, at the end of Thursday or Friday. I was reading between the lines and preparing like I was going to start. We'll see about next week.
RE: Possibly starting against Dallas
It will be fun. The Cowboys are a very good football team. We just have to go out there and prepare this week like we did last week and go out there and make plays. Everybody was making plays today. If we continue to do that the next two games, it should be exciting and we'll be alright.
RE: The offense
The guys up front were huge. Seattle has a good defense and I think I only got touched one time. That is outstanding. You can't ask for anything better than that. I think we ran the ball good. Personally, I'm just glad I managed the game and didn't make any major mistakes. I tried to stay calm and stay focused. Our quarterback coach said all week to just manage the game. If it's not there, check it down. I'm glad things worked out like that.
RE: Vinny's help?
A ton. He's a great guy with a big box of knowledge. Not only him, but Jake and Dave and Brett, those guys helped me out a ton. Mike (McCoy) will give me the game plan and any questions I have, I can always ask Vinny. It's a little different talking to a player than talking to a coach. He's a good guy to have around.
RE: Starting next week
I've been preparing like I'm going to play a bunch. I don't want to get too tense or too crazy about it. I want to stay loose and have a good week and execute at practice. We need to make sure we have all of our checks down and be on top of our game. Overall I don't think a lot of things will change for me.
RE: What will you do when you throw your first touchdown?
I don't know. Thank the Lord. Shake hands with my teammates. It will be fun.
RE: Fleaflicker play
That was a bummer. I got in the huddle and told Drew to run on that one. He did, and I just kind of undershot him a little bit. You have to hit those big ones.
RE: Presence in the huddle
There was one time that I couldn't get the play out of my mouth and the guys were like, "Come on!" I was trying to collect myself. Other than that it was good. Guys helped me out, so it was good.
RE: Mixing the run and pass
It was nice. I've been saying that all week. Being able to set a tempo with the guys and getting in a little rhythm. For guys to get to know me and who I am on the field in a legitimate situation, it was good. Guys reacted well. We did some good things. It was pretty good overall.
RE: Weather a factor?
I thought it was going to be worse going against the wind because it was howling early on. You have to zip it in there. I don't know if the play calls were different because of that. It didn't seem that way. I didn't think about it too much.
RE: Growing up were you a Seattle fan?
No. I'm from Southern California. I was a Bronco fan. I wasn't a Seahawk's fan.
RE: Playing against Dallas
The Cowboys are America's team. They have a big following. That just makes it more special. It's a big game for us. We have to enjoy this one and roll into next week positively and get it going.
RE: Different because the Cowboys cut you?
That is the way the game works. If that's the case, it will be great. There are no hard feelings or anything like that. It's not a big deal to me. You still have to play football.
RE: Relationship with Tony Romo?
A little bit. We were in camp most of the time, so the only time I saw him was in meetings and on the field. He's a good guy. He helped me out a lot when I was there. Definitely a guy I think a lot of quarterbacks should model themselves after. He's always smiling and having a good time. When I was there, I was trying to be like Tony a little bit. He's a good guy to be around.
RE: Business like in the huddle?
I am sometimes, but I like to have a good time. If I'm all business and I'm not enjoying things and getting down on myself, I don't feel like I can play that way. It's always better when you're having a good time. You still want to win, not loosey goosey, but relaxed and calm.
