RE: The reason behind the loss
They kind of dominated third down today, that's obviously a pretty big statistic. We went into this game focusing on not turning the ball over. We felt like if we didn't turn the ball over we'd have a pretty good chance to win. The other quarterback had a great game, they had good success converting on third down and that was a big part of it.
RE: How much of a factor was the wind
The wind was a factor, but it was a factor for them too. The wind is not an excuse. We haven't played in a game like that in a long time, if ever, but they were dealing with it as well. They missed a field goal, they rebounded and eventually made the game winning field goal, then the game winning touchdown.
RE: Is there anything good about getting knocked around after a winning streak
I think there is because we're going to fix what needs to be fixed and like we've said before, the mistakes we're making are simple mistakes. We were talking about their blitz. They're bringing four guys or five guys and some teams don't even call that a blitz, which we have to handle better. When there are plays to be made we have to play better. It's a group thing. Every guy's got to look at themselves and ask what they could have done better. We should have done a better job of being aggressive and trying to win the game instead of trying not to lose the game.
Never miss a local story.
RE: Is the upside that these things are fixable or is it the downside that they're still being made ?
I don't think that matters. At this point, our seed is still unchanged but we've got to get our act together if we want to achieve our next goal. We're not in this to go part of the way there, we're in it to go all the way there.
RE: On the success of the two minute drill
I think that's something that we're pretty good at. We're good at the two-minute drill and hurry-up situations. Our four wide package is a good package. We went to the same play twice and they had a different defense on. I had to hold on to the ball a little bit. We had other opportunities. We started the game three and out and three and out. You can't do that. I don't even feel like I played a full game. I feel like we should go back out there and try again. They are good on defense. We don't just say that. They have two Pro Bowl caliber defensive ends. They are well coached on defense. Their corners are talented. They mix it up. They have two big guys up front. They are huge. They gave us a difficult time up there.
RE: The loss
If anything I think we'll be better for it. That is up to us and everyone in our organization. What do we need to do to get better? Each guy has to look at himself and say, "What can I do better? How can I help this team?" That is what I'm going to do.
RE: Wind and the shotgun
The wind had a little bit of an effect on it. We've scaled back our philosophy on the shotgun. I just follow the guidelines on that.
RE: Pressure not getting rushing yards puts on passing game
I don't know if we have that many plays. I don't know what we were averaging. I felt like I looked up and it was the fourth quarter. Again, that has a lot to do with them owning us on third down. We have to do better on third down.
It's great. He's been playing at a high level. We introduce him now with our starting group. We never used to do that even though we thought of him as a starter. He's clutch. He's been big, a leader in our locker room and a leader on our team. I should probably throw it to him more.
RE: The two minute before the half
The two minute has been good for us. We don't practice it a lot. We practice it twice a month. It's just been good for us. It forces us to have good tempo. We have talented wide receivers. There is always a favorable match up for us. The third downs were not good for us today. We devoted an entire day to third downs. It's not like we're not trying or not working at it.
