Mike Holmgren made it pretty clear in his press conference that the Seahawks won't take Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons like a day off. He said he's approaching the game against the 3-12 Falcons that has no bearing on the Seahawks' playoff position like any other.
"We are going to play the game like we have played all season," Holmgren said.
The reasoning is that he wants to keep momentum and cohesion, especially with the offensive line. The Seahawks ran for a season-high 144 yards vs. Baltimore last week and Holmgren would like to see the beleaguered unit build on that.
The one factor he will take under consideration is players with current injury issues. That means DT Rocky Bernard (groin) and LT Walter Jones (shoulder) won't practice much this week and their status is uncertain.
Holmgren said he'll play QB Matt Hasselbeck but like what happened last week, there's a point in the game where he would consider taking him out in order to protect him.
WR D.J. Hackett (ankle) and CB Josh Wilson (quad) will practice this week, Holmgren said, and he would like to see them get some time on Sunday. That, however, depends on how they get through this week.
Holmgren said C Chris Spencer has a thumb issue, but that won't keep him from playing.
