We met with offensive coordinator Gil Haskell a few minutes ago, and all I can say is that it's a shame you can't post true, uncensored audio here because Gil truly is one of the funnier individuals you'll ever talk to. Raw. Honest. Insightful. With a very unique way of stating things.
In any case, we got the sense that the new receivers, Billy McMullen and Samie Parker, were not going to see a lot of time on Sunday simply because they don't know the system. I asked him if you could backyard it and have Matt tell the receivers where to go, but Gil said you could not, which makes sense since Mike Holmgren spends the better portion of training camp jumping on players about how important spacing is since those minor details are what makes the plays go.
Gil also made it seem as if Michael Bumpus was going to be activated off the practice squad. He never came right out and said it, but he included Bumpus in the receivers who know the system and could contribute. He said it remains to be seen how much time Seneca is going to get.
Never miss a local story.
The thing he likes about Pork Chop at right guard is that Chop is such a big guy that even if he lacks the natural talent it is going to take a lot of effort for a defensive tackle or linebacker to get around him. He said Willis moving to right guard is a wait-and-see, in part because they have to see how Locklear is when he tries to come back next week. It's one thing to want to step on the field and play, it's another to be able to.
Gil really likes John Carlson. I wouldn't be surprised if Carlson has more of a role in the offense this week, especially with the wide receivers situation.
