It was a full practice where only Koren Robinson and Maurice Morris did not participate. Morris did more than Robinson, who did not wear his helmet or pads.
I have to say, Bobby Engram and Deion Branch look pretty darn good, like they are ready to go. They looked more in sync with Hasselbeck today than they did the previous days, and will probably look even better tomorrow. Matt is spreading the ball around to different receivers and appears to have a comfort level back that was missing in those weeks where he was playing pick-a-wideout.
Brian Russell was pretty frisky today, first sticking a shoulder into Mike Lawrence (Brandon Jacobs) sending him to the ground, then getting a good pop on Joe Newton (Kevin Boss) and finally tackling Jordan Kent (Amani Toomer) when Kentoomer beat the secondary for a touchdown. Later, Russell had an interception, as did Marcus Trufant, who made a nice play on the ball and made the catch despite the cast on his hand. Kelly Jennings had a pair of back-to-back picks.
Never miss a local story.
One of the better moments in practice came when we actually witnessed a 310-pound man do the splits. Brandon Mebane slipped on the grass and actually looked very graceful as he could have qualified for dancing with the stars. His teammates gave him a few whistles and hoots for the gymnastical (not a word) move.
The team will have a short, light practice tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. before flying to New Jersey tomorrow afternoon. It should make their body clocks in tune with the 10 am start in The Meadowlands. Hmmmm.
