Draft day is finally here, with today's event officially getting underway at 1 p.m. this afternoon. I'll be posting regular updates throughout the day, including each time is selection is made up to the Seahawks pick at No. 4.
But I thought we'd start off this morning by taking a tour around the teams picking in the top five to get an idea of what's being said about each team.
So here we go.
No. 1 – Detroit Lions
Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com reports that Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford's deal with the Lions is not the six-year deal reported on Friday, but more like four-year deal. Kowalski says if Stafford is terrible, the Lions will cut the cord and not pay him the enormous sum of money he would due in the last two years of the contract. The two sides agreed to a six-year, $72 million deal, $41.7 of which is guaranteed.
Nicholas J. Cotsonika of the Detroit Free Press says Stafford is ready for the enormous pressure that will be on his shoulders as Detroit's franchise quarterback. We'll see.
Don Banks of Sports Illustrated says that after the draft hype subsides, if things go well in Detroit we shouldn't see too much of Stafford.
No. 2 – St. Louis Rams
Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the team's needs at offensive tackle are too big to ignore.
More Thomas: He projects the Rams taking Baylor's Jason Smith.
Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times says USC quarterback Mark Sanchez's stock is rising with the team.
No. 3 – Kansas City Chiefs
Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star says Chiefs GM Scott Pioli has a plan and isn't afraid to make moves. What that plan is, however, still remains a mystery.
Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star says what Kansas City decides to do with running back Larry Johnson could impact what they do in the draft.
Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout.com says Pioli is working hard to trade out of the No. 3 overall pick, and might even use the second rounder he received from the Atlanta Falcons in the Tony Gonzalez trade to move down into the second round this year.
No. 4 – Seattle Seahawks
GM Tim Ruskell and the rest of his staff look to make good on the team's fourth overall pick.
Greg Johns of Seattlepi.com says the Seahawks could fill go several different directions with the fourth pick and still fill a need on the roster.
From Mike Sando's ESPN blog, Scout.Inc has Sanchez as the projected pick for Seattle.
Scott Johnson of the Everett Herald writes that finally Seahawk fans have something to get excited about.
Clare Farnsworth at Seahawks.com offers a glimpse inside the team's war room.
John Morgan and Doug Farrar continue their dueling, round-by-round Seahawks mock draft this morning.
Michael Steffes at Seahawks Addicts offers his ideal Seahawks mock draft.
No. 5 – Cleveland Browns
Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer gives us four things to look for from the Browns heading into today's draft.
Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer says some intrigue still remains on what Cleveland will do with the No. 5 overall pick.
More Grossi: He has Cleveland picking DT B.J. Raji.
