Turns out, not only will Marshawn Lynch not play in the Seahawks' preseason opener tonight at Denver, he won't even be here on the sidelines in a hoodie.
One week after he ended his mini-holdout and reported to training camp, Seattle's star running back didn't make the team's trip to Colorado. That may generate some noise, but it's not that big a deal; the team confirmed about a dozen other veteran Seahawks didn't come, either, most of those either injured or coming back from being out.
The list of 17 Seahawks officially termed by the team as "not expected to play" tonight, in roster numerical order:
QB B.J. Daniels (groin)
WR David Gilreath (concussion)
RB Marshawn Lynch
S Kam Chancellor (just back this week from hip surgery)
DB Akeem Auguste
CB Eric Pinkins
LB Mike Taylor
LB Bruce Irvin (hip surgery)
LB Malcolm Smith (ankle surgery)
LB Bobby Wagner (hamstring)
OLB Kevin Pierre-Louis (oblique strain)
LB Korey Toomer (hamstring)
C Max Unger
T Russell Okung (just back this week from toe surgery)
G James Carpenter (just back this week from a calf injury)
WR Kevin Norwood (surgery this week for bone spur in foot)
DT Jordan Hill
Unger's absence means Lemuel Jeanpierre is the only true center dressing tonight, which means coaches will be giving ample opportunity for linemen such as Alvin Bailey to show off their versatility. The more positions a young guy proves he cane play this month, the better his chances to make this team.
