Former NFL personnel executive Jeff Diamond writing for Sports Illustrated gives us a pretty in-depth report on soon-to-be free agent quarterback Matt Flynn, which includes comments he’s heard from talent evaluators across the league.
Diamond names Miami, Washington, Seattle, Cleveland and Oakland as potential suitors for Flynn’s services, and believes he could land a contract in a bidding war once free agency begins March 13th that would pay him $10 million a year.
Diamond: “GMs and coaches can't speak publicly about impending free agents, but several have told me their scouting reports on Flynn state: good to very good in the following categories -- arm strength, quick release, accuracy, athleticism and mobility (especially moving in the pocket); hard worker, smart, tough, composed, great competitor, an excellent teammate and leader; good character.
They like that he has been tutored by Packers coach Mike McCarthy, former Packers offensive coordinator and now Miami head coach Joe Philbin and his QB coach at Green Bay, Tom Clements -- all well known for their ability to develop top quarterbacks. And he has soaked up QB savvy watching and learning over the last four years from Rodgers, the NFL MVP.”

Gil Brandt of NFL.com reports that Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill will throw for NFL scouts on March 29th. Tannehill had a screw implanted in his injured foot and is on doctor’s orders to stay off it until shortly before his March 29 workout. The foot was repaired last month by noted orthopedist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C. The quarterback was in a boot but had it removed last weekend. He’ll attend the combine to meet with coaches and have his medical testing, but will not go through drills.
