We’re off and running here at the NFL Scouting combine here in Indianapolis.
I've been told the Seattle Seahawks will not be using the franchise tag for the first time in four years. Today is the deadline to apply the franchise tag for the league Last season, Seattle franchised kicker Olindo Mare at a $2.8 million price tag. This season, only Mare made any sense in terms of the team franchising him, which would have been a projected $3.1 million.
Mare was solid again last season, but will turn 38 years old in June, and the Seahawks may be looking to get younger at that position.
Never miss a local story.
My story today focuses on the importance of the combine workout for Washington quarterback Jake Locker, along with highlighting other local prospects here in Indianapolis.
Dave Boling of The News Tribune says it’s important for Seahawks’ brass to trust their eyes and not fall in love with a player’s numbers at the combine.
Doug Farrar of Sportspressnw.com offers five defensive players at the combine Seattle might be interested in.
Clark Judge of CBS Sports writes that Auburn quarterback Cam Newton’s latest comments should send off alarm bells for NFL general managers.
More Judge: He provides the biggest QB busts in the history of league, and wonders if Newton will add his name to this list.
Scout.com is running a live combine blog with up-to-the-minute updates of what is happening here.
Rob Rang, senior draft analyst for NFLDraftScout.com, is doing the same thing here.
