The Seattle Seahawks confirmed that they cut offensive lineman Chester Pitts this afternoon. No player has been added to his the roster at this point.
The team also added offensive lineman Mike Gibson back to the practice squad after releasing him earlier this week. To make room, Seattle let go of running back Chris Henry from the practice squad.
Seattle releasing Pitts, 31, comes as a surprise, as the team had been slowly working him into the lineup since training camp began in August.
Pitts is returning from season-ending microfracture knee surgery last year, and was set to return to action this Sunday.
However, the Seahawks apparently were not pleased with what they saw from Pitts during practice this week and decided to move on. Gibson and Ben Hamilton split reps with the first unit at today's practice.
I'll have more later.
