Phil Mickelson tied for 121st.

Nick Watney was all alone at the top of the crowded leaderboard.

On a day local favorite Mickelson missed the projected cut by seven strokes, Watney shot an 8-under 63 to take the second-round lead at the FBR Open on Friday. Play was called due to darkness with three players, all above the cut line, still on the course.

At 9 under through two rounds, Watney had a one-stroke lead over Charley Hoffman, Matt Kuchar and first-round co-leader James Nitties. Kenny Perry and Cameron Beckman were two shots back. Puyallup’s Ryan Moore is one back of them.

“I was hitting the ball close, and I kept telling my caddie just to get me on the green any way and I felt like I could hole it,” Watney said.

Stenson leads in Dubai

Sweden’s Henrik Stenson shot a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead in the suspended second round of the Dubai Desert Classic.

Stenson, a Dubai resident since 2003, played 25 holes Friday because of fog delays during the opening round. He had an 11-under 133 total.

PGA Tour sues Ginn

The PGA Tour sued Ginn Development, citing breach of contract after the resort company dropped sponsorship of the Champions Tour Ginn Championship.

Ginn, which has seen its financial well-being take a serious hit in the worldwide economic downturn, announced on Wednesday it was ending all golf sponsorships immediately, including the Champions Tour event and the LPGA’s Ginn Open.

TRACKING RYAN MOORE

This week: PGA Tour’s FBR Open, through Sunday, TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Second-round score: 4-under-par 67.

Position: Moore (6-under 136) is tied for seventh, three strokes behind leader Nick Watney (133).

Recap: Two solid rounds are in the book for the Puyallup golfer, who is in contention for his first PGA Tour title. The Cascade Christian graduate didn’t make a birdie at the rowdy par-3 16th, but he did in the two holes before and the two after, including driving the green on the 332-yard, par-4 17th and sinking an 8-foot putt on the 18th to go out in 33. His birdie on No. 5 left him alone in the lead – briefly – at 7-under before a late bogey set him back. His 10 total birdies are tied for fifth in the field.

Tee time today: The second round will resume at 7 a.m. PST, with the third round beginning an hour later off the first and 10th tees. Moore will be in the third-to-last group with Brian Gay and Scott Piercy.
