St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger will be sidelined three-to-six weeks with a fractured left leg sustained in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
The team said it would not place Bulger on injured reserve.
Bulger underwent two magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams Monday, one on his groin and hamstring and a second for what the team believed was a swollen knee. He also was to be tested for concussion-related symptoms today after a physically demanding loss to Arizona.
Coach Steve Spagnuolo said the first MRI revealed a strain.
“Marc Bulger’s pretty banged up,” the coach said. “Marc’s got a few things going on.”
Cops investigate Cromartie
Police are investigating a claim that San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie hit someone in the head with a champagne bottle at a bar shortly after the team returned from a victory in Denver.
Detective Gary Hassen said officers answered a report of a fight at Bar West in Pacific Beach, Calif., shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Cromartie is under investigation for assault with a deadly weapon, Hassen said.
Hassen said a witness claimed Cromartie threw a champagne bottle but the player said it slipped from his hand.
A man sustained a cut to the back of his head but nobody was hospitalized or arrested.
Cromartie, who had an interception in the Chargers’ 32-3 victory, wasn’t in the locker room Monday when it was open to reporters.
He posted this on his Twitter account:
“I want to apologize to charger nation and my fans. There’s sum stuff out abt me that’s not true. It will come out. God Bless.”
Ryan feels dissed by Patriots
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan felt “disrespected” by the New England Patriots for throwing a deep pass with the game well in hand Sunday.
The Patriots were ahead 31-14 with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Tom Brady threw long for Randy Moss on third-and-6 from their 45-yard line. The pass fell incomplete, but riled up Ryan.
“We need to stop them anyway, so it’s no biggie, but I was surprised, and I did feel a little bit disrespected,” Ryan said.
Stafford, Johnson hurting
Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson played the game Sunday that Detroit Lions fans had been waiting all season to see.
Stafford set an NFL rookie passing record with 422 yards in a 38-37 victory over Cleveland and became the youngest player to throw five touchdown passes in a game. Johnson had seven catches for a career-best 161 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown.
Trouble is, a national TV audience might not get to see either player Thursday. A source told ESPN.com that Stafford has a separated shoulder.
Stafford and Johnson were both injured on a chaotic play as time expired, and Lions coach Jim Schwartz didn’t sound optimistic either would be available to face Green Bay on Thanksgiving.
