The U.S. Open Cup has been a high-wire act for Sounders 2, which again needed extra time to survive against a geographic rival.
The latest result was a 2-1 win over Portland Timbers 2 at Starfire Stadium on Wednesday, with the decisive goal coming from Pablo Rossi in the 104th minute.
That sends S2 on to the fourth round, where they will meet Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer on June 17 in Sandy, Utah. Sounders 2 also had needed extra time before advancing past Kitsap in the previous match.
Portland opened the scoring in the 54th minute, when Rennico Clark headed in a cross from Blair Gavin.
S2 answered in the 66th minute when Victor Mansaray rolled a pass through the Portland defense to Andy Craven, who touched the ball around the keeper and finished into an open net.
Rossi’s winner came after a T2 defensive error in the penalty area.
S2’s USL regular season continues Saturday in California against Orange County Blues FC.
