On Friday, the Sounders listed a "guest player" starting at left back against the LA Galaxy.
On Monday, he gained a last name and a bit of praise from GM Garth Lagerwey.
And today we have an announcement:
Seattle Sounders FC has signed defender Andrés Correa, the club announced today. The 21-year-old Colombian international will be added to Sounders FC's roster immediately following receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, additional terms of the deal are not being disclosed. "We are pleased to welcome Andrés to Sounders FC," said Seattle General Manager and President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey. "He is a dynamic, exciting young player that we believe can compete for minutes on our backline as we head into a packed season across multiple competitions." Correa, 21, has spent the last four years with Fortaleza and Medellín, making 17 career appearances for the two clubs in the Colombian First Division. He also has 10 appearances for Colombian Youth National Teams, helping his nation to a first-place finish in the 2013 U-20 South American Championships. "Andrés is a very good young player with a tremendous upside," said Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid. "Although he's a young player, we believe he can be a contributor this year and we look forward to working with him throughout preseason camp." Correa and Schmid are being made available to media following today's Sounders FC training session at Starfire Sports at approximately 11:30 a.m. PST. Sounders FC continues its 2015 preseason presented by adidas with a week of training at Starfire Sports before traveling to Tucson, Arizona on Sunday, February 15 for a two-week camp. We should hear from the newest Sounder after training today.
And here's the quote from Lagerwey from yesterday: "Numberwise at left back – obviously you’ve got Leo, who played the majority of the games there last year. We’ve got the young player Correa who started against the Galaxy, I thought had a good outing – still working on his fitness, but getting up to speed. You’ve got the young player Dylan Remick who played a number of games, including the Champions League games last year. So I would say numberswise we’re actually OK at left back. What we need is for somebody to actually play really well at left back. And to be clear, I think historically Leo has done that. I think it’s also fair to say that Leo is closer to the end of his career than he is to the beginning. Every position we need to have a succession plan. Part of that is the succession plan. … One of the reasons they have me here is to have a succession plan over three years and five years, and that comes from S2 and the academy, so I’d honestly worry less about who’s on the first-team roster than who’s in the pipeline."
