Today marked Clint Demspey's second training day with the Sounders since returning from national team duty. It also marked his first meeting with the local media.
Some of what he had to say, above and below:
Early impressions: Still a good locker room – that’s always a good sign. Everybody’s hungry, trying to impress and show they should be in the 11. And then I guess we going to see as we get closer to that first game everybody pushing even harder, more competition for spots and everything like that. I ought to know a little more about the team, because this is only my second training session.
How he feels physically compared to last season: "To be honest with you, I felt good coming in last season because it was almost like a preseason when I went on loan – going over there and getting that work and getting my body right and playing at that level. And so I was sharp when I came here, and I’m feeling sharp for the preseason camp now. I think what happened was as the season went on, and even after the World Cup, there was a little bit of lull there, a little bit of tiredness in the legs. I don’t think I’m going to experience that this year. Knock on wood.
Never miss a local story.
Coach SIGI SCHMIDOn Dempsey: Obviously physically he should be ahead of some of our guys because (he) went to camp earlier with the national team. So it’s really been more of a balance with us trying to balance giving him some time off and keeping him in is form. But this is the only week that we felt that we could do that, so we sort of balanced his schedule a little bit, and today training was good.
