Here's some of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say after his club's scoreless draw tonight at Dallas.
Overview: Obviously I’m pleased that we played to zero in the back. A lot of people think with a man advantage maybe you should get more out of the game, but the way Dallas plays, playing a man down really doesn’t impact their game because they play for free kicks and they play a lot of the long passes through to (Fabian) Castillo and try to run. So having one less man doesn’t really affect how they play, and I thought we did a good job of on Castillo tonight. I thought we had three really good chances in the second half. We need to score one of those three. If we score one of those three then we’re walking away with three points tonight.
On expectations with so many starters out: That we would win the game. Our expectations are always that we win the game. We have confidence in the young players. Roldan gets his first start tonight, Kovar gets minutes again off the bench. First game for Victor; first game for Oneil. And I thought all the guys did really well. Victor almost got the assist on the goal.
On Chad Barrett at forward: I think he’ll be the first one to say that he’s got to finish one of those. He got pushed a little bit on the header. But normally he’s very good in the air and he usually finishes that one. Andy Rose got taken down as he tried to finish his chance, but there was no call. I thought we had another penalty shot when Harris took down Neagle in the box. At the end of the day Barrett knows as a forward that you live and die by the chances you finish.
On Sounders' defense: I thought they were good. I thought they were conscientious about making sure that they doubled when Castillo had the ball. I thought Tyrone Mears did a good job for us defensively. Zach Scott stepped in and played very well. For Brad it was a big game because of the fact that I know he lays the blame on himself for the other game, but it shows his character and what he’s all about.
On Obafemi Martins' quad injury: We’re hoping he should be back next week. He took a knock in the game against Tijuana. We hoped it would respond – that’s why we (were a man short on the bench) – but it just didn’t respond in time. But we hope to have him back by next week.
