Here's my story from today's paper on the local connections... and there are plenty. Seattle is represented through Sounders defender Brad Evans; former Sounder DeAndre Yedlin, now of Tottenham Hotspur; former Sounders FC academy forward Jordan Morris, now of Stanford ... and also through Sounders midfielder Gonzalo Pineda, who will be an analyst on the Fox Sports 1 pregame show.
Here's some of what Pineda had to say about that yesterday before flying to Texas:
On how he got the analyst gig: They contacted the Sounders, the Sounders told me about the idea, and I said yes, it’s great, it’s a great opportunity.
On if he's nervous: I’m nervous. But I did the some thing last year on Spanish television in the All-Stars against Bayern Munich. I kind of know what to do, but Engish is the big channenge this time.
Never miss a local story.
On if he's interested in a broadcast career once he's through playing: Maybe. I don’t know yet. Probably my first thought it to become a coach, but I don’t know.
His analysis on Mexican team: I think it’s a young team. A new team. It’s the last chance that Miguel Herrera has to see which players can be in Copa America. Of course he knows which players can be in Gold Cup – the first team will be there. But the second team is the one that is kind of at risk for him, so he wants to see (them) in a dangerous spot in a big game against the U.S. in a difficult situation with a lot of pressure. It’s going to be good.
Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said that Evans' availability for the Sounders match Saturday at Colorado will depend on how much he is used tonight.
