The Sounders U23 team hosts Lane United this Friday, May 29th at Bonney Lake High School in an important Northwest Division showdown between teams that split their games in 2014 when Lane United entered the Premier Development League (PDL).
The Sounders U23 team is coming off a 1-1 tie with Calgary Foothills after peppering Calgary with shots in the second half and only finding the equalizer. Joey Gjertsen scored for the boys in green while leading the young squad in the first of 12 Northwest Division battles. As with each year, the Sounders U23 team is highlighted but top college players looking to use the summer as a jump start to their college fall seasons and further enhance their opportunity to eventually hit the professional ranks. Jonathan Campbell from the University of North Carolina, Brandt Bronico from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and Guillermo Delgado from Delaware are a few of the young guns suiting up for the rave green this summer.
Lane United come into the fourth game of their 2015 campaign after tying against the Puget Sound Gunners 3-3 and falling to the Portland Timbers U23 and Kitsap Pumas by the score of 0-2 in both contests. United is led by Matt Bersano and Rolando Velazquez, both from Oregon State University. Tim Mueller also joins the team for 2015 from Oregon State along with a host of Spanish players to fit into Head Coach John Galas’ playing philosophy.
“John puts together a team that plays so you expect good soccer when we meet,” explained Darren Sawatzky, Sounders U23 Head Coach, “We look forward to a good fight with Lane on Friday.”
The game on Friday kicks off at 7:30pm at Bonney Lake High School. Tickets are available at www.soundersu23.com.
