The Seattle Sounders FC brain trust will be in Fort Lauderdale this weekend when the best players availble in next week's SuperDraft will be on display at a five-day combine.
However, the player that impresses the Sounders the most may not be as important to the future of the franchise as the player that impresses some other MLS team the most -- because the Sounders are willing to part with the top pick for the right price.
"We have to see what's going to be presented to us," FC technical director Chris Henderson said this week. "There have been some nice things put on the table so far, and I think it's only going to get maybe better for us. Other teams are desperate for that No. 1 spot, and as we get toward that draft day we may get some pretty good options there."
Henderson said the Sounders "have some ideas" who they would select if they hold on to the pick.
He will attend the combine along with coach Sigi Schmid, assistant Brian Schmetzer and others from the FC front office.
"There are a few players on our radar who we think could really contribute from the beginning," Henderson said.
The combine runs through Tuesday.
