These quotes from FC coach Sigi Schmid were provided by the Sounders' media staff:
Overall assessment of the 3-1 win over LA: "Obviously it didn't start well, but that's good too. Preseason is preseason. I don't make too much stock in these games, but it's always good to win rather than losing. It's a habit that we start building as a new team. I was happy with the first half. I thought we gave up three chances. They scored on one. It hit the post on the other one. But I thought we were really close to getting a number of goals. I thought our movement of the ball was good at times. We put people into dangerous positions. I was happy with that. And I thought we got better as the game went on. We understood each other a little better, and made some real adjustments."
On the speed of guys like Sanna Nyassi, who scored in the 91st minute: "There's other teams that are going to have speed too. But obviously players like Nyassi and Sebastien (Le Toux)… (Steve) Zakuani's got good speed. Fredy (Montero) has good quickness. Those are things that we're going to have to build our game around."
On Steve Zakuani's run into the box that led to a Fredy Montero penalty kick: "I mean there's a rookie going against another rookie: He was going against (A.J.) Delegarza. But Delegarza probably has a good shot at being the guy at right back, until Sean Franklin comes. It'll be a little different when he goes against a veteran right back like Frankie Hejduk, who is a little more experienced. I think that Steve has a little bit of extra stuff some times – that cut back. When he got the ball he was dangerous time after time, and that's what we're counting on."
Never miss a local story.
On lineups in the remaining three exhibition matches: "We'll start against China (Shandong Luneng on Tuesday) the group that didn't play. The nine guys that didn't play L.A., and one other. And then we'll mix. We might mix the last two groups a little bit, and remix it again as we play Ventura (Fusion). We don't want guys going more then 45 minutes, maybe the San Jose game on Friday, we might push a couple of guys to 60. Most of the guys we'll only keep at 45."
