Here's an update from the Oregonian on the USL-1/NASL mess and what it might mean to the Portland Timers in their pre-MLS season.
The quote that got my attention was this one, from Timbers owner Merritt Paulson: "The two sides will come together for the 2010 season. One way or another, I can guarantee that we're gonna have a sanctioned season this year."
However, you have to wonder is a non-season would really be all that bad for the Timers (and Whitecaps) organizations.
You may recall that Adrian Hanauer seriously considered simply going dark with the USL Sounders in 2008, allowing him to devote full attention to the Sounders' 2009 entry into MLS.
It didn't turn out that way, of course. And I guess the success of the Sounders provides a blueprint for this kind of promotion-like MLS expansion. But it was never an open and shut issue here.
