I missed the Sounders training session today, but apparently Nate Jaqua and Pat Noonan didn't.
At least that's the highlights from some Sigi Schmid quotes provided by the club:
On Nate Jaqua and Pat Noonan returning to training:) “It’s good. Each day we are trying to push them a little more. Nate played as a neutral again and we were short so we had him stand out there in the 11 v 11 a little bit. So each day a little more and we see how he reacts the next day. Pat the same thing. He was in full training. He was being a little bit careful. He is smart enough where you could put him in the full training and he knows not to overextend himself in certain situations. We’ll check on him now and see how he feels in regards to what he has in him, minutes and so forth.”
On Nate Jaqua:) “Some of the soreness he is going through right now is not really from the injury. It’s soreness from just not having done anything for three months. He’s at the very beginning. He is trying to get in shape, trying to get fit, trying to work through the injury, breaking down the scar tissue from the surgery and trying to get his touch back. Those are a lot of things to do at one time. We have just got to be patient and give him time and what happens is he is going to have some good weeks with it and have some days that don’t look as good.”
On playing the Red Bulls for second time this season:) “Based on our last game and the result and the results of our last few games, if I have to stand there and fire them up they probably need to get in a different line of work. But I don’t think that’s what I need to do. I think our team is ready. One of the big things we talk about all the time is trying to win the season series with somebody. We are behind in the season series with New York so we need to win this game to even the season series, at the very least. If we can win by more than one then we can win the season series. We’ve always said if you win the majority of season series you will be in the playoffs at the end of the day. That is one of our near-term goals and that’s something we have got to put into reality on Saturday.”
