It goes final at 1-0, Quakes. And it's the story of the season in a 90-minute chunk: lots of chances, no goals, disappointing result.
Miguel Montano had the last great chance in the 87th minute, firing wide on a mostly open net from about 7 yards.
The Sounders fall to 3-4-3 as the season hits its one-third mark. Those nine points, multiplied times three, wouldn't be close to enough for the playoffs.
They also drop to 2-3-1 at Qwest Field.
Never miss a local story.
San Jose moves to 5-2-1 and runs its shutout streak to four games and five of the last six.
I'll be back with notes and quotes.
76th minute: Noonan in for Gonzalez.
62nd minute: Montano in for Nyassi.
55th minute: Tacoma's Joey Gjertsen subbed out for San Jose.
Halftime: Quakes up, 1-0. Lots of Sounders chances after the early goal, but no finishes.
Seattle has taken 7 shots and put two of them on goal. Meanwhile, San Jose's only shot went in.
11th minute: Quakes strike first on Chris Wondolowski goal. He finished at the far post as the Sounders converged on a runner through the middle. Assists to Brandon McDonald and Bobby Burling.
And given the way the Quakes play defense, three points seems to have become a pretty steep challenge for the home side.
Kickoff: Very eager to see how this Sounders' lineup (post below) performs.
Here we go.
Pregame: Quakes in black/black, Sounders in rave/blue.
Weather holding out: cloudy and gusty, but no rain for now, and some sunbreaks. Classic spring in Puget Sound.
I'll keep this blog open for in-game and post-game discussion.
