The quad re-injury that Alonso picked up early in last night's 3-0 win against Boca Juniors simply compounds the pressure on a defense already weakened by the loss of central defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, perhaps for the season.
We got a few minutes with Alonso this morning, and here -- speaking through an interpreter -- is part of what he had to say:
"My leg hurts. ... Its the same injury that happened in the Galaxy game. ... I felt good yesterday, but it was later on that it started hurting yesterday. ... I was planning on playing about 45 minutes of the game yesterday, so I was sad when I had to come out. ... There was contact. ... It's really frustrating because I was recuperating for two weeks and now it's kind of like back to start again: another two weeks of recuperation. ... (But) the team is able. They've got other great players. We'll be OK."
The Sounders return to MLS play Saturday at Colorado.
