And he based some of those hopes on the addition of a pair of big scoring threats in the middle: Nate Jaqua, who could return in that Philly game, and Blaise Nkufo, who could make his Sounders debut July 15.
"Jaqua will certainly help," Schmid said. "Hopefully when we get back from this break he’ll be available to us. Nkufo is another big body. Having a big body up there helps us. And we’ve got to continue to work now that we’ve got Freddy on the side we’ve got to be able to finish off the service that he brings."
Jaqua played in a Sounders reserve game this morning -- even scoring a goal. And he said he believes he is on pace to return after the World Cup break.
"I wasn’t in everything, but I feel like I had a solid week," he said. "(I’ll) keep working on my fitness this week and then be ready to go when we get back. Even when I get in the first game I’m not going to be 90-minutes fit. But as a forward you can be in there and not completely fit, I feel like. I don’t know how it’s going to go. I’m looking forward to shooting for that 27th game."
