Ljunberg seemed to be moving well in practice on Monday, so the decision to leave him home will only give rise to speculation that he is not long for the team due to trade or transfer.
And while there seems to be more momentum to those rumors this time, we should remember that there has been much Ljungberg-to-leave speculation before:
Last August, when Ljunbgerg returned to London and neither confirmed nor denied reported that he might return overseas for the 2010 season:
“I haven’t made any plans,” Ljungberg said upon his return to Seattle. “I haven’t decided what I want to do after the season. I’m really happy here in Seattle. Of course, there are good clubs that have been mentioned and stuff. We’ll see what happens.”
And then last October, immediately after the Sounders' season ended in defeat at Houston:
“I love it here,” he said. "We’ll see what we’re going to decide. I said I’ll talk to my agent after the playoffs, and unfortunately now it’s after the playoffs. But like I said, I love it in Seattle and hopefully I’ll be back next season.”
