"I think he can look at his options overseas, options within the league," Sounders' technical director Chris Henderson said. "Potentially the club could get a DP spot open, get salary relief. It opens a lot of doors for us. That right there is a big reason.
"The (transfer) window is right now for him to do it. He has his agent looking, like Sigi said about the contract situation. I think we just are day-to-day to see what happens. If it doesn’t happen then we have a different plan than if it does. I think we just kind of wait and see. There are other things that have been thought through where if he does end up leaving, then we go from there."
Neither Henderson nor Schmid were quite ready to say Ljungberg has certainly played his last game with the club, but it certainly looks that way.
