This weekend of MLS action has unfolded in a way that should provide opportunity for the Sounders, if they can take care of business at 7:30 tonight against the Colorado Rapids.
And these days "take care of business" has be mean three points at home. Several of the Sounders' playoff rivals were involved in draws this weekend, giving the Sounders a chance to gain ground in the standings.
So far this weekend, San Jose and Los Angeles -- both ahead of Seattle in the West -- played to a 2-2 draw.
Toronto and Dallas -- both ahead of Seattle in the playoff standings -- played to a 1-1 draw.
Real Salt Lake -- the West's No. 2 club -- played to a draw with Chivas USA, the one Western club currently behind Seattle.
Meanwhile, Columbus' 3-0 mauling of Houston means that the Sounders will pass the Dynamo today with either a win or a draw.
And while the Sounders can't also pass Colorado with a win today, they can move to within one point with a win ... or fall seven behind with a loss.
