Even though it seems unlikely that Rooney will ever wear the rave green, he certainly could end up in MLS, and coach Sigi Schmid found that a good thing.
"It was good to see him play and to see him train," Schmid said today. "He moves on to Portland now, and they take a look at him as well.
"What’s really exciting is that players have an interest in coming to our league. Certainly a big signing is Alvaro Fernandez, where you get a young World Cup player, which I think is huge. We were talking about that today: How often do you get a young player who’s played in the World Cup in our league –that’s coming to our league from a foreign country. But it’s good to know that our league now has the respect and the interest overseas where people want to come to it. I think John represents that. He has enough contacts in England that he could find clubs in England and stay there. But the challenge of coming here is something that interests him, and I think that speaks well of our league."
