With the win, the Wizards pull to withing six points of the Sounders in the MLS standings, which would be a tie if they take full advantage of their two games in hand.
Seattle visits Kansas City on Oct. 9.
Some notes from the club in the wake of their victory:
Never miss a local story.
# Kansas City is now 8-9-6 (30 pts) on the season.# The Wizards are 5-1-3 in their last nine MLS matches, and 6-1-3 in their last ten overall when including the victory over Manchester United.# The Wizards are currently in 4th place in the Eastern Conference, one point back of Toronto FC who has played two additional games in 2010.# With the win, the Wizards are now six points out of the final playoff position, held by Seattle, who has also played two additional games so far this season.
Pregame: One more MLS game on tap today: Kansas City at Chivas USA at 5 p.m. at Home Depot Center.
Both teams are looking up at the Sounders in the current playoff race, but neither has given up on catching them yet -- especially since Seattle has dates with both teams as the clock ticks down on this regular season: Oct. 9 at Kansas City, and Oct. 15 vs. Chivas at Qwest Field.
