So, I asked a guy who has seen both seasons -- second-year Sounder Steve Zakuani -- is the 2010 Sounders would beat the 2009 Sounders.
"Last year I think we ran a lot on adrenaline," he said. "Everyone was just so excited. First it was the green jerseys, then it was the 3-0 (inaugural win) against New York, then it was just one thing after another. This year we had to play from adversity. We made a very bad start. To have lost once in the last (11) games and just about be in the playoffs tells you how bad we must have been. Something wasn’t working. And for some reason, somehow, we’ve managed to turn it around and we’re kind of just playing in our zone. Today was a very, very, very good performance. It felt very mature. And even thought we conceded a goal at the end, it doesn’t take away from what we did as a team. I think we’re heading in that direction. I mean, we’re two years as a franchise. It’s unbelievable. I would say we’re a better team than last year just because we’re more mature and we’ve thrown that sophomore jinx off for sure."
