There had been some uncertainty this week as to whether Seattle once again winning U.S. Open Cup would once again bring entry into next year's CONCACAF Champions League.
Even after the game Sounders general manger Adrian Hanauer stopped short of absolute certainty. Hanauer said that as far as U.S. Soccer was concerned, Open Cup was one of the tickets to Champions League. However, since Champions League is CONCACAF's tournament, Hanauer left open the possibility that CONCACAF could restructure for next year in a way that might reduce the number of U.S. entries, for example.
However, that possibility seems to have disappeared tonight, as the CONCACAF website offered this welcome to Sounders FC, as the first team to qualify for the 2011-12 tournament.
