The Seattle Sounders FC announced today that midfielder Peter Vagenas has been traded to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for defenders Julien Baudet and Danny Earls.
An 11-year MLS veteran, Vagenas helped Sounders FC win its first trophy, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, in 2009. He ended the 2010 season on the disabled list with a quadriceps strain.
"I want to thank Pete for his contributions to Sounders FC during the first two years of the club's existence," said Seattle head coach Sigi Schmid. "He was an important player for us, both on and off the field."
Vagenas, 32, made 16 starts in 21 league appearances for Sounders FC and recorded two assists in his two seasons. He was chosen by Seattle in the 2008 expansion draft. Vagenas has played 204 MLS games since being selected by Los Angeles in 2000. His totals include 14 goals and 27 assists.
Never miss a local story.
This season, Vagenas made 10 appearances in all competitions. In 2009 he made 18 appearances in all competitions with 12 starts, including the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final win over D.C. United.
Baudet played two seasons for the Rapids, making 28 regular season appearances with 23 starts. The 31-year-old Frenchman scored one goal in 2009. He came off the bench to play the entire 30 minutes of extra time in Colorado's 2-1 win over FC Dallas in Sunday's MLS Cup 2010. Baudet played 10 years in France and England before arriving midway through 2009.
Earls, 21, started 15 games as a rookie this past season in Colorado, appearing in 18 matches altogether. A former Republic of Ireland youth international, he came to America in 2008, joining the Rochester Rhinos of USL-1.
