[caption id="attachment_13481" align="alignleft" width="200" caption="Tarted up new Sounders jersey."] The biggest news -- and the best, from my standpoint -- is the switch from blue to shale for the secondary kits. I know that the blue had a lot of fans. And I'll grant that they looked just fine as a single kit. However, MLS is so full of teams wearing various shades of blue, that I'm more than happy to have the Sounders go their own instantly recognizable way: rave, shale, electricity.
Plus, the Sounders have some shale practice uniforms, and there have been many of training session where I thought they would make a fine game kit. Now, I guess we're about to find out. (And judging from that Riley photo at left, it appears the pants will be shale also, which should make the rave trim pop out nicely.)
Unfortunately, well enough has not been left alone with the rave kits, which were borderline perfect as they were. Now we have added not only silver, but silver in fully unnecessary striping that looks unfortunately lightening-bolty on the chest and unfortunately bra-strappy on the back.
So, classic good news and bad news as far as I'm concerned. But if anything is a matter of taste, this is it, so I'll be eager to hear what you guys think ... and then eager to actually see the real kits in action.
Never miss a local story.
Meanwhile, the Sounders have put out this notice that the new jerseys were scheduled to arrive last week at the two Pro Shop locations. The jerseys, including the new shale away shirt, will be available beginning Thursday at Qwest Field and Pacific Place in downtown Seattle.
Finally, the MLS-rumors.net website has this sneak peek at potential new jerseys for Chivas USA and Colorado.
