In its final training session at Grande Sports World, Sounders FC were in full health for its two-a-day practices. The team held 45-minute weight sessions in the morning before taking the training field for the final time. Seattle will play Chivas USA at 9:30 a.m. PT before departure on Saturday.
The team continued to build fitness in the afternoon session as they focused on quick feet and fast acceleration with fitness coach Dave Tenney. After a series of competitive passing games, the team broke into two groups for two games of 7v7 with one neutral player. A quick game of keep away was followed by a game with four small goals with a one-touch restriction. The four goalkeepers were put through an intense session with goalkeeper coach Tom Dutra on the opposite side of the field, focusing on tracking crosses and attacking the ball.
To end the session the players worked on crossing and finishing on the big goals. With keepers in net, head coach Sigi Schmid wanted the players to work on accuracy of the crosses and timing of their runs as well as strong finishing. Perhaps the best news was that all players that were present participated in full training, including defender Taylor Graham and forwards Blaise Nkufo and Pat Noonan.
