"Coach Sigi Schmid on wrapping up the preseason with a win:
"We have tested ourselves in every game. There was a stretch there were we didn’t score goals and everyone says it’s the end of the world and now tonight we score three goals. It’s not like there’s a new dawn that’s approached, either. We can’t get to low with the lows and can’t get too high with the highs."
Schmid about the team's offense:
"I thought we were more aggressive in our style, we got forward and we tried to look behind the defense. Hopefully, the win was not costly because of a couple of injuries. But that’s why you have a squad, you have depth."
Never miss a local story.
Schmid on injuires to Brad Evans (right hamstring) and Steve Zakuani (right hip):
"It’s tough to update right now. You really have to see how it reacts in a 24-hour period."
Schmid on Fredy Montero's two goals and an assist:
"I thought his energy and effort was good. Obviously, I was pleased with the two goals he scored, especially the one with the pass from Friberg… I thought he had another one he could have hit earlier.
Schmid on Hurtado's goal, and penalty:
"He made a great run and scored on the header. On the PK, me and Jhnon Kennedy just talked about it. The ball probably should have been in row 35. He should have not tried to bring that ball down. If he just clears that ball out, you live and fight for another day. He didn’t do that, the ball comes inside a little bit, and then you got players in this league that have pace and if you step on them in the box, you’re in trouble."
Schmid on the team's defense:
"Casey and Cummings, are probably the best forward tandem in the league, at least last year. ... I thought overall we did a fairly good job on them. Early in the game we got into a couple of bad positions, bad angles…. For the most part, we kept them in check fairly well."
"Even though I thought we gave up a little bit of a soft goal, I was happy overall. We made a couple of defensive plays, blocked some shots and we were good on set pieces as far as defending their corners."
On if Wednesday's lineup was a preview to the season opener:
"Providing guys aren’t hurt, yeah. But you never know."
"We are very happy. It was a good end for the preseason. This gives us motivation to start the season."
Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, on the PK:
"That was a play that unfortantely, I made a mistake. I should have cleared, thankfully we eneded up wining and theree’s always another day to fix things."
Brad Evans, on his play and then injury:
“I felt good tonight, I completed most of my passes but something unlucky happens and it’s just the way it goes sometimes. There are guys that can obviously fill that spot, so there’s no worry about a dip in play. For me, it’s a let down, obviously. The most positive thing, for sure, is the season has not even started yet. From that standpoint, I just have to keep an even keel and not get upset. It’s a minor setback.”
