The 0-1 Sounders quickly resumed training today, with coach Sigi Schmid looking back at the opening loss to L.A., while also quickly turning his attention to the game in New York rushing up on Saturday.
Some quotes provided by the club:On yesterday’s game) “I thought we had six very quality chances. They had I think three quality chances: [Landon] Donovan’s shot, [David] Beckham, the one he hooked over, and the goal. There was another look by Juninho but overall I thought we had a little bit more of the game. Our league is a league where the team that usually has more possession loses because it’s a counter-attacking league. That’s the way they are set-up to play. They counter-attack very well but I thought on the day we did more than enough to come out with a result. But we have got to finish our chances and we got to keep them off the board. We should have came out 0-0.”
On this week’s practice schedule) “It’s a pain because obviously the guys who played last night can’t really train today and tomorrow we fly so we get no training tomorrow and so those guys get basically one light training day before we play. You’ve got to talk about things more. You’ve got to do things a little bit more on the board. You can’t do things as much on the field but, like I said, that’s the way the schedule is so we’ve got to deal with it.”
On how to prepare for New York Red Bulls) “Obviously Dane Richards is always a guy you got to worry about because of his pace. Thierry Henry has now been there for a preseason so he’s acclimated to the league and to his team so he is going to have a bigger impact than he did probably at the end of last year, plus he’s not hurt. [Joel] Lindpere was a very good player for them last year. He’s a guy you have got to be aware of because he’s got a major shot and he’s got a way of sneaking into the box. There are some other guys as well. They are also a very good passing team out of the middle of the back with [Rafael] Marquez in the back now so that makes them a very good build-up team.”
Never miss a local story.
On Pat Noonan and Brad Evans) “Obviously they both did more today so we’ll see how they came through today and we’ll make a decision. If the game was tomorrow neither of them would play but obviously the game is on Saturday. Is it worth taking them along to see how they do with another two days of rest and are either of them able to play? That’s a decision that we’ve got to make this afternoon.”
