[caption id="attachment_14726" align="aligncenter" width="480" caption="Pregame at Buck Shaw Stadium, Santa Clara University"] [/caption]Sounders FC played its game tonight at San Jose without franchise leading scorer Fredy Montero, who didn’t travel after undergoing wrist surgery on Thursday. In his place, coach Sigi Schmid moved midfielder Mauro Rosales up top alongside O'Brian White.
Each player contributed to Seattle’s two goals as the Sounders (0-2-2) and Earthquakes (1-1-1) played to a free-flowing draw before a crowd of 10,276 at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Seattle moved ahead in the ninth minute, as Rosales made a strong move into the penalty area and crossed a low pass in front of the goal, where Brad Evans banged it in from about two yards.
San Jose pulled even in the 33rd minute, as Simon Dawkins made a curling run into the area, took a Bobby Convey pass and beat Kasey Keller to the far post. It was Dawkins’ first MLS goal, and it broke an MLS-record streak of 12 consecutive San Jose goals provided by Chris Wondolowski.
In the 42nd minute, as Steve Zakuani juked past defender Chris Leitch and launched a pass in front of the goal, where White’s diving header put Seattle back ahead, 2-1.
Leitch was the only Quake subbed out for the second half, and his replacement – Khari Stephenson – evened the game at 2 in the 52nd minute, taking advantage of space in the Seattle defense to wind up and sizzle on to the top, far post past the diving Keller.
The game became less fluid and more physical through its final minutes. And though each team had additional chances, the score stuck.
Montero is expected to be available to return Saturday when Seattle returns to action versus Chicago at Qwest Field.

52nd minute: Halftime sub Khari Stephenson sizzles a 30-yarder into the top wide corner past diving Keller, who might have gotten a hand on it. Even at 2.
Second half: Has begun. One Sounders change, Fernandez for Friberg. For San Jose, Stepenson for Gjertsen (who Zakuani tortured on the last goal).
Halftime: Kasey Keller preserves Seattle's 2-1 lead with a brilliant save, facing down Joey Gjertsen one-on-one in the box seconds before the whistle.

Terrific game, and there's no indication that even two goals will be enough.
42nd minute: O'Brian White header puts Seattle up 2-1. Comes after wonderful move into box and cross by Steve Zakuani.

We'll keep this post open for pregame and postgame information, and -- we hope of course -- as many comments as you care to share. And while I will continue to add in-game updates at halftime and after and for goals and other major events, I think we might be shifting some of the in-game stuff over to Twitter, which just lends itself to running reports a little better than this.
