The new member of the Whitecaps clearly was getting used to his new surroundings -- not only a new team and a new city, but a new country -- but he seemed happy to be back in MLS and especially what seems to be another well-chosen expansion city. And while he may be looking forward to the matches with the Sounders (June 11 here, Sept. 24 there), he had nothing but good things to say about the organization he was a part of in 2009 and 2010. (And Vagenas is not just being political or polite here: He is a guy who says what he thinks -- eloquently.)
"I've said it before: If every team was run like (general manager and part owner Adrian Hanauer) runs his club then the MLS has got a bright future," he said. "That organization was top-class, and it starts with that man. I can't say enough about what he's done with his team, and how they run their team there is second to none. I wish them nothing but the best. Zakuani is a big hit, so if they can get past that I think they're be right there. They're sort of peaked ... they have that last little bit to climb and then I think they'll be contending for the big thing. I wish them all the best."
