The Sounders 1-0 win over Toronto tonight moved them to 6-4-7, giving them 25 points exactly halfway through their league season.
That's half a point below the pace coach Sigi Schmid likes for playoff safety ... although this season 51 points seem like more than enough because 10 of the 18 MLS teams will go into the postseason.
In any case, we asked Sigi what he thinks of 25 points at the midpoint.
Never miss a local story.
“If my math is right, 25.5 is a point-and-a-half a game, so we’re right around the goal that we set for ourselves,” Schmid said. “Now we have to get ready for next week to get to work. We’ve got two games at home and then Open Cup after that. Our schedule gets really heavy, and our depth is going to be tested."
Later, we asked Sounders keeper Kasey Keller if he'd take a guarantee of 50 points now, or just play things out and aim for more.
"I’d take 50 right now if you’d give it to me," he said. "But I know we can do better. We’ve got some tough games coming up, like always; and then we have fun travel coming with Champions League. But we have a good squad, we’re going to have to use it. I just want to start winning some more games at home."
They'll get two chances in the coming week, as New York visits Thursday and New England next Sunday.
