Zusi got my first vote. My second went to Mauro Rosales.
Here's the release:
Sporting Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi was named the MLS Player of the Month for June by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). Zusi started five games for Sporting in June and the club went 3-0-2 – a drastic turnaround from their early-season struggles.
Never miss a local story.
The third-year pro contributed two goals and three game-winning assists in the month as Kansas City opened their new home, LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, in style. Zusi is second in MLS for game-winning assists, behind LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham, and his streak of consecutive games with assists (3) is the second longest in MLS this season.
Zusi recorded his first career multi-goal game on June 12th in a 4-1 win at FC Dallas, scoring twice and providing the game-winning assist in the upset. His stunning free kick goal from 45 yards also garnered an MLS Goal of the Week nomination. He followed up that performance with two more game-winning assists in a pair of games at LIVESTONG Sporting Park – a 1-0 win over San Jose, and a 2-1 defeat of Vancouver.
This is the first time in Zusi’s MLS career that he has been named the MLS Player of the Month. He is the eighth player in club history to earn the honor, and the first since Eddie Johnson in April, 2007.
The MLS Player of the Month is selected after each calendar month of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information can be found at www.soccerreporters.com.
