At training this week, I had gotten the impression that the Sounders had stuck pretty much to the hotel and stadium during their trip to what apparently is a fairly ominous city of Monterrey. Then on Thursday -- just two days after the game -- the city jumped into the world headlines with a casino attack that according to this story killed at least 52 people.
At training today, I asked to Sigi Schmid just how safe his team feels when traveling throughout the CONCACAF region.
"We always make sure we make contact with the consulate and so forth," he said. "I don’t think the guys went anywhere besides the hotel. We stayed pretty much in the hotel, and when we did our team walk we just basically walked around the hotel. The area we were in – San Pedro – is a pretty nice area, so we felt good about that and we were told that."
