I'm not really planning on doing this much, unless y'all really want me to. However, this just in from the University of Washington:
UW’s own Husky Soccer Legend, Hope Solo, will hit the dance floor in front of a live national audience as she starts the Dancing with the Stars competition with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. They will be dancing the Viennese Waltz, a genre of a ballroom dance.
Solo finished her career as Washington’s all-time leader in shutouts, saves, and goals against average and went on to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world, helping the United States win a gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and then leading them to the finals of the 2011 Women’s World Cup.
As the sixth female athlete to star in the ABC hit show, Solo will show off her dance moves with the help of her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Known as the “bad boy of the ballroom,” Chmerkovskiy joined the show in Season 2, presenting the audience with his bold moves and an even bolder mouth. He made it to the DWTS finals three times, but has never won the shiny disco ball.
Never miss a local story.
To vote for “Team Hope and Maksim,” fans can call the toll-free number 1-800-868-3408, text “VOTE” to the same number (for AT&T customers only), or go on-line to abc.com and register to vote. The phone and text number will remain the same throughout the season. Fans can start voting multiple times during and immediately after each performance show. Phone and text lines will stay open until 30 minutes after the end of the show. Online voting will continue to be open until 8 a.m. PT the following day, when the DWTS Results Show will air (Tuesdays at 8/7C) and the couple with the lowest combined score from judges and viewer votes will be eliminated from the competition.
Solo will be competing against 11 other celebrity contestants; athlete Ron Artest of the Los Angeles Lakes, actor David Qrquette, reality-TV stars Kristin Cavallari, Carson Kressley and Rob Kardashian, HLN’s legal analyst Nancy Grace, talk show icon Ricki Lake, war veteran and actor J.R. Martinez, entertainer Chynna Phillips, entertainment legends Sonny and Cher’s son Chaz Bono, and model Elisabetta Canalis.
The 13th season of Dancing With The Stars will kick off tonight at 8/7c on ABC.
