But what comes next, once Keller calls it a career at the end of the Sounders' playoff run?
I asked general manager Adrian Hanauer today if the young club has any policy regarding the retirement of a player's number or the establishment of a Sounders Ring of Honor like the one the Seahawks have at CenturyLink Field.
The answer: No. Or, more properly: Not yet.
"In light of Kasey's retirement, I'm sure it's a topic that will come up in the very near future," Hanauer said.
Meanwhile, here's the note from the club on the Kasey Keller Day proclamations:
The Sounders FC announced today both Governor Christine Gregoire and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn have issued a proclamation to designate October 15, 2011 as "Kasey Keller Day" as a salute to the Sounders FC goalkeeper final regular season match.
Keller, who will retire at the end of the season, will be honored in an on-field ceremony immediately following the match
The Sounders FC host the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, October 15 on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast nationwide on Fox Soccer.
