DC United and the Portland Timbers played to a 1-1 draw tonight in DC. The ending was about as frantic as I can recall with each team having multiple good chances. By the end, it seemed like there was a wormhole through midfield allowing constant play in front of each goal. Amazing.
The result eliminates DC from playoff contention. Timbers hopes remain flickering, through barely.

Never miss a local story.
A couple of games involving MLS teams will be televised tonight.
The most compelling is Portland's visit to DC United. (Here's a preview from the Oregonian.) Anything but a win kills United's playoff chance, while anything but a win delivers the Timbers that much closer to death's door. Here's how it breaks down:
Portland Timbers clinch a place in the MLS Cup Playoffs IF:
· they defeat both D.C. United and Real Salt Lake AND· New York Red Bulls tie or lose to Philadelphia Union
OR· they defeat D.C. United AND· Chicago Fire defeat Columbus Crew AND· New York Red Bulls lose to Philadelphia UnionOR· they defeat Real Salt Lake AND· Chicago Fire defeat Columbus Crew AND· D.C. United tie or lose to Sporting Kansas City· New York Red Bulls lose to Philadelphia Union
Here's a preview from MLSsoccer.com, which will be updated throughout the night.
The other game is the CONCACAF Champions League match with Colorado at Santos. That will be shown on Fox Soccer at 5.
