Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans, Alvaro Fernandez, Erik Friberg, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Fredy Montero, Lamar Neagle, Sammy Ochoa, Jeff Parke, Mauro Rosales and Steve Zakuani. (Michael Tetteh didn't need to be protected.)
That means these players are available to the Impact: Terry Boss, Servando Carrasco, David Estrada, Josh Ford, Michael Fucito, Leo Gonzalez, Taylor Graham, Patrick Ianni, Nate Jaqua, Roger Levesque, Bryan Meredith, Miguel Montano, Pat Noonan, James Riley, Amadou Sanyang, Zach Scott, Michael Seamon, Tyson Wahl and O'Brian White.
The club provided this quote from general manager Adrian Hanauer:
Never miss a local story.
Given the fact we've lost three players to expansion drafts the past two seasons we are bracing ourselves for the possibility of losing someone. Despite those losses we have developed a deep squad and grown stronger. We couldn't protect everyone, so some of those who contributed significantly to our success are bound to be exposed. It will be interesting to see how Montreal approaches this.
Here's the full list from all MLS teams.
Reaction: There are certainly some players on the unprotected list that the club must hope not to lose. But there aren't any real head-scratchers on the protected list either. There's just no way for a team this deep to protect 11 and not leave some desirable players unprotected. ... Protecting Steve Zakuani but exposing O'Brian White probably reflects a combination of the upside of each player, their history with the club, and the projected probabilities of productive return from injuries. Ochoa also likely figured into the lack of protection for both White and Jaqua. Also, there's every chance that White's injury and Jaqua's age/salary could cause Montreal to pass. ... Zach Scott appears on the list as "Zacharias." Very cool name. ... "Impact," however, is the worst expansion name to join the league since the Miami Fusion. ... I'm getting the impression MLS might not be ready to name a 20th franchise anytime soon, so the Sounders may not need to go through this expansion ordeal again next season. ... Conventional wisdom says Montreal takes Mike Fucito. Less conventional ... Scott?
