However, there is only one captain's armband, and after Kasey Keller wearing it for most of the last three seasons, Schmid handed it to Mauro Rosales for the Community Shield match last week.
Rosales appreciates the gesture, but echoed Schmid's hope that there is no shortage of leaders on this roster.
"It’s an honor," Rosales said after training today at CenturyLink. "It’s an honor that a player from another country have the armband. But I think that many players here can wear it: Fredy, Ossie Alonso, Hurtado, Parke, Evans, Alvaro they are players that are doing very well the last three years, and they can wear it. It’s an honor the coach picked me, but I think anyone anytime can wear this armband."
